A Family Business.

Jeff and Patty raised their family of four with a Biblical foundation of serving God by serving others.  Their children were raised to study hard, work hard, and serve others through the family business ventures and by volunteering with various non-profits.  Their family has served on Mission trips to places like Haiti, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Venezuela, Brazil, China, and multiple regions within the United States.  The Mission experiences included many cups of bad coffee, mediocre coffee, and a few good cups of coffee — serving as a key stepping stone in working toward a career in coffee.

After 15 years of experiencing offerings from independent specialty coffee houses while traveling the world on business, Jeff and Patty began a pursuit for high quality roasters.  Pursuing their vision of opening a specialty coffee shop, Jeff also determined to roast his own beans to develop roasts for discriminating coffee lovers.  In 2014, Jeff and Patty purchased an existing roastery and moved the operation into their warehouse.  The name, "old hatch roastery", was chosen as an homage to the history of the facility, and its new use as a coffee bean roastery.  The 3-story building was constructed in 1895 as a chicken hatchery and purchased by Patty’s family in 1939.

Jeff began importing top grade arabica beans through 4 different importers with a focus on Fair Trade, Organic, and naturally-processed beans from Co-ops and family producers to encourage small businesses in other Countries. Now offering varietals from 19 countries, Jeff continues to roast coffees for his own coffee shops in addition to several other independent coffee houses, restaurants, and churches. Old Hatch now sells small batch, hand roasted beans across the United States and beyond.

An idea was formed and over the next several years their idea became their passion to open a gourmet coffee shop combining Patty's love for baking and their shared love of coffee. This vision became the first location for Hazelnut Coffee Company, located next door to the roastery in Celina, Ohio — and provides a testing ground for the never-ending new roasts and blends that make Old Hatch Coffee Roastery stand out from the crowd.
